Moving Home FAQs

  • How early should i start speaking to movers?

Quick answer,  ASAP.  we always advise speaking with potential movers well in advance, good movers are often booked in advance,  even if dates are not confirmed we will happily advise and provide boxes early in the process.

  • What if i dont have a move date yet?

Not a problem! it’s a really good idea to have your chosen removal company selected and all the details agreed upon in advance so that all you need to do when you get a move date is confirm it. This saves you a lot of time and makes sure that your preferred mover is available (particularly in peak periods like summer and school holidays).  Also, we can get your packing kit to you, and maybe help with temporary storage for decluttering while the property is on the market all well in advance.

We are happy to have a “working to” date and adjust this as things progress.

  • Will it take more than one day to move?

Normally we can carry out a move all in one day, exceptions may be when travelling a distance or your require a full packing service.

  • What time would my Removals crew arrive?

This all depends on your own circumstances and the size of your move.  We advise you to speak with your solicitor as he/she will advise on a handover window.  Typically we aim to have you vacated between 12-1 pm with access normally around 2-3 pm.  Make sure you ask your mover if they charge waiting time.  we do not however many do and this can be costly.

  • If i dont want to do my own packing can you?

Of course, we can offer a range of packing options to suit you!

Full Packing Service - we pack everything

Fragile packing only - we pack fragile items such as lamps, glassware, china etc.

Full Overseas wrapping service item of furniture is specially wrapped.

  • If i want to pack myself can i?

Absolutely,  this is often the best way to have a clear out as you go, and of course, you can use your own boxes or we can provide these too.  Most of our moves come with a FREE packing starter kit.

  • Surely you cant pack everything on the day?

Every move is different,  and many yes we can pack the day of the move, however often we can do a little or the majority of the packing in advance of move day, customers tell us this helps them feel it's actually happening!

  • How can i pack my Mirrors or TVs

Smaller Mirrors and artwork can be wrapped and packed in boxes for safe transport,  however, for larger mirrors, artwork and especially TVs and computer monitors unless you have the original packaging please leave those to us we will protect these on a moving day for you.

  • Obviously my fridge or freezer will be moved full keeping everything cold?

We would advise always that in the weeks before moving, you run all foodstuffs down in preparation for move day,  any remaining food should be placed inside plastic bags before packing within boxes, and fridges and freezers should be empty to avoid risk of damage.

  • Do I really have to empty all my bedroom drawers?

Generally, most sets of drawers up to 4 high can be moved fully provided no heavy or fragile items are kept inside,  our surveyor can advise however should the crew on the day feel they need removing that would be no issue for us.

  • When my sofa was delivered they had to remove doors?

If this is something you know is required please let us know and we can arrange a professional to carry this out.  Should this be required on the day we may be able to assist at your own risk.

  • Do i need to disconnect my cooker, washing machine or light fittings?

We can arrange for qualified plumbers and electricians to attend to this on your behalf,  the crew may assist depending on your needs however this would be at the crew's discretion and at your own risk.

  • Flammable goods, chemicals gas container.

Items such as petrol mowers must be emptied, and cleaned prior to collection,  we are unable to move gas containers or flammable liquids due to insurance restrictions.

  • We have 20 years of stuff in the loft ?

All loft and basement contents should be boxes for moving,  our crews are not permitted to enter the loft or crawl space unless safe to do so,  having adequate flooring, lighting and a safe fixed stairwell.  If you are in any doubt we can go over this at quotation.

  • Can you take away items we don't want?

We work closely with a number of charity groups and are happy to uplift these items either in advance of move day perhaps when delivering boxes or on move day.  Should we be required to dispose of items to refuse we would charge for this.

  • Shed and Garden contents can you move these too?

We can yes, however, must all be packed and boxed ready to be lifted, with tools being grouped together for safety.

  • How and when should I pay?

On booking your move we will forward a deposit invoice to secure your date,  and a balance invoice a week prior to moving day,  all invoices must be paid in advance unless otherwise agreed in writing.

We encourage payment via bank transfer,  however can accommodate debit/credit card payments for your convenience.

  • How much is the Deposit? and will I loss it if i postpone?

Our deposit can range from £50 for a local move to £250 for a more complex distance move.  Provided we have the notice to do so we will transfer the deposit to a new date.

  • Would you supply packing materials in the cost?

If detailed within your quote we will provide a complimentary starter kit in advance of your move.

If we are carrying out a packing service for you we will bring with us all the materials we require,  we can also provide some boxes in advance for personal items you may like to pack.

We can also supply a selection of materials on request.

  • Would you collect packing boxes after the move?

We would be happy to arrange a collection of materials when possible following your move.

  • What about my Furniture being protected?

Our vehicles carry quilted furniture protection for sofas,  mattres sleeves as standard.

  • How do we protect our new carpets?

Our vehicles carry floor covers and stair runners,  however taking into account the Scottish weather and in particular new build sites it can be difficult to guarantee however we will always make every effort to reduce the risk of marking carpets and flooring.

  • Covid-19 Can you still visit and provide a quote?

Although all UK restrictions have been lifted, we do appreciate some households may have concerns,  our surveyor and crew can make adjustments if required to protect you on the day.
